The Terramar Collective Story

Terramar Collective was born from a deeply personal journey to honor my father, Robert Austin, and his contribution to the surfboard shaping community in Orange County over 60 years ago. A search for an original Austin Baird surfboard to proudly hang in my new home unearthed not only vintage boards - I also stumbled across sites selling basic merchandise featuring the original Austin-Baird logo. As a former sporting goods product line manager approaching semi-retirement, I wanted to bring my own unique vision to the brand, as a "passion project." Rather than using new materials, especially from overseas, I chose to repurpose the tees by incorporating them into vintage flannels, surf-inspired jackets, and sweatshirts. The goal is to focus on sustainability and creativity by upcycling wherever possible. That said, we do allow ourselves some room to have fun with the occasional new, higher-end pieces.

La Pura Vida - the pure joy of living fully, freely, and in connection with what matters most.

After negotiating to purchase as much Austin-Baird product as possible from online sellers—at reasonable prices to clear the market—I realized I didn’t just want to resell someone else’s T-shirts. • Our Vision

The name Terramar is deeply personal, inspired by countless hours spent at Terramar Beach in Carlsbad. As a newcomer to the area, seeking direction for the next chapter of life, that stretch of coastline became a sanctuary—a place for reflection, clarity, and envisioning the future. It’s from this space of possibility and renewal that the spirit of Terramar was born.

  • Our Symbol

The logo captures the spirit of Terramar, while the three trees symbolize my family, the heart of my life. Individually, they stand for Ohana, Saudade, and Ubuntu—values of family, cherished memories, and shared humanity. Together, they embody la pura vida—the pure joy of living fully and connected.
